Processing & recycling trials:
WRAP: a series of demonstration trials of a range of separation techniques for WEEE plastic mixtures, including identification and commercial evaluation of promising techniques/technologies that could be used by the WEEE reprocessing sector. Read the final report:
Carpet Recycling UK and Envirolink Northwest: practical trials of recycling of post consumer polypropylene carpet. Read the final report:
WRAP: demonstration trials to develop a commercial process for reprocessing flat panel display televisions;
Hampshire Natural Resources Trust: pilot project to test de-manufacturing and separation processes for small WEEE items.

WRAP and private clients: development of advanced processing techniques to produce food grade polymer from post consumer high density polyethylene and polypropylene;

Collection trials:
Coca Cola Great Britain: design and implementation of an award winning major promotional campaign, ‘Talent from Trash’, which aimed to encourage increased recycling activity in 14 local authority kerbside schemes and Tesco store recycling collections, through promotional activities with Football League club supporters and their families.
Recovinyl: management of the PVC industry's UK recycling project - market-based mechanism working with existing recyclers to encourage recovery of post-use PVC waste. Link to the Recovinyl website
Recofloor: testing and now ongoing management and further development of a UK-wide collection and recycling scheme for post installation and end of life PVC flooring with 300 collection points; Resource Efficiency Yorkshire: market research project to identify and quantify sources of waste plastic from food processors in Yorkshire and also recyclers within the region.
WRAP: delivery of three feasibility trials for SME recycling programme. The first trial was a collection project for small companies in the glazing sector, identifying the range of recyclables that could be collected for recycling and different approaches to providing a recycling service. The second trial focused on SMEs within the construction sector, looking at ways to encourage and enable this sector to recycle. The third trial looked at developing innovative recycling services for SMEs based on industrial estates and business parks.
Business Planning
Greenergy International Ltd: market and technology assessments followed by business plan development for biodiesel manufacture from waste and virgin vegetable oils. This led to the construction of a 200,000 te/yr biodiesel plant at Immingham. Axion also carried out the business planning and investment due diligence for Greenergy’s acquisition of the Mayflower Fuels terminal in Plymouth and for Greenergy’s investment in Scarab Energy, a major joint venture to develop distributed waste to liquid fuels capacity in the UK;
North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC): development of a business plan for a large scale oilseed crushing plant in the North East of England. Read the final report:
Global Renewables: development of a business plan and capital investment proposal for a mixed household waste plastic packaging recycling facility to be operated by a third sector business (Prospects Plastics) as part of the Lancashire and Blackpool PFI contract;
JWS Recycling: JWS Recycling is Manchester’s leading construction waste MRF. Work included technical evaluation of equipment and the development of a business plan and marketing plan for the expansion of JWS’ construction waste separation plant prior to submission of a grant application for equipment to WRAP.
